Do I need to register with the Police?

When you arrive in the UK the Immigration Officer may put a stamp in your passport telling you that you are required to register with the police within seven days of your arrival in the UK. This will include most students (and family dependants aged over 16) from the following countries or territories who have been given permission to enter/remain in the UK for more than 6 months.

The requirement also applies to stateless persons and people travelling with non-national travel documents.

Please note, you are only required to register with the police if the requirement has been included on your visa or stamped in your passport.


Registering with the police for the first time

IF YOU LIVE IN BEDFORDSHIRE.

To register, you will need to bring with you:

  • the completed registration form (registration forms can be obtained from the CSA office).
  • your passport
  • the fee of £34 – this needs to be the exact amount in cash or a cheque made payable to ‘Bedfordshire Police’
  • 2 passport sized photographs
  • proof of studies and address

All students/spouses must attend in person to sign the forms.

If you are unable to see the police on their visit in October, you will need to go in person to register with the police at the police station in Luton. The times for registration are Tuesday mornings from 09.00-12.00hrs.

IF YOU LIVE IN MILTON KEYNES/NEWPORT PAGNELL/BUCKINGHAMSHIRE
You will need to register with the Milton Keynes Police, Monday to Fridays 09.00 – 14.00hrs.

Change of address or visa details

When you have registered with the police, you must inform them of any subsequent changes to your address or visa details. 

If you live in Bedfordshire, you can notify a change of address or visa details by post or in person.

If you are living in Milton Keynes/Newport Pagnell area, you can go directly to Milton Keynes Police Station.

There is no charge.

By post

To notify change of address, you will need to send your certificate, together with a letter giving your new address and the date when you moved to your new address. 

If you are notifying a change of visa details, you will need to send your certificate and passport.

Alternatively, you can go in person to notify your changes to Luton Police Station on Tuesday mornings 09.00hrs - 12.00hrs.
