Event date: 21 August 2012
Event end date: 22 August 2012
Location:
Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham
Overview
Two annual authoritative international conferences on Small Arms are held each year. One is organised by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) in the USA, as a part of the Joint Armaments Division Conference for Small Arms, Gun and Missile, and Unconventional & Emerging Technologies systems which is being held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington from 14 – 17 May 2012. The other, the European Small Arms and Cannons Symposium, is organised by Symposia at Shrivenham at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, and the 26th anniversary of this event is to be held in the Defence Capability Centre Conference Hall at Shrivenham in the UK, on 21 - 22 August 2011. We hope you will join us, particularly as this is now a 2 day event, minimising your time away.
What is this event about?
This symposium is a premier event where the Small Arms Communities come together for technical paper presentations, informational speakers, and exhibits of the hardware used by current and future defence and security organisations. As always, we are keen to welcome law enforcement and security firearms communities also.
The theme this year is ‘Next Generation of Small Arms’.
How can you contribute?
Through presentations, discussion groups and plenary sessions, the purpose is to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas, the development of new perspectives and the challenging of current thinking. Your input to discussions is pivotal.
You can make a major contribution by presenting a paper to complement those provided by invited speakers from the staff of Capability (Ground Manoeuvre), Project Teams and Force/Capability Development. Papers related to the symposium theme of ‘Next Generation of Small Arms’ are particularly welcome but papers on the following, or related areas, are always well received:
Future Combat Soldier Systems Long Term Research
Novel technologies Fire Control Systems
Cannon Systems Sighting Systems
Warheads and Fuzing Error Budgets
If you would like to contribute a paper, please click on Abstract Submission. Please ensure that your Abstract of approximately 200 words reaches us by 2 July 2012. Presentation of papers should take no more than 20 minutes, followed by questions.
Who will be there?
This symposium uses a well proven format which brings together, annually, representatives from Military Staffs, Government Procurement Agencies, Research and Development Staffs and Industry from around the world in a relaxed atmosphere within the surroundings of the Defence Academy. Time is planned into the programme to allow formal and informal discussions both in the main lecture theatre and during the breaks for coffee, lunch and tea. The formal dinner, an important aspect of the symposium, has proved to be very useful and productive in previous years. The occasion provides an ideal and convivial focus for networking and discussing issues with your professional peers who are each addressing the challenge from their own perspective. Proceedings on DVD will be available at the end of the symposium, free to all delegates.
