Event end date: 18 June 2012

Location: Defence Academy of  the United Kingdom, Shrivenham

Fifth Military Anthropology Workshop, Cranfield University, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, 18 June 2012

Cranfield University is again hosting an international Workshop for Military Anthropologists on Monday 18 June 2012.  The purpose of this workshop is to bring interested parties together from all over the world to describe ongoing and recently completed work and to discuss current issues in Military Anthropology.  The Workshop occurs in the same week as three related symposia, the annual ‘Culture in Conflict Symposium’ and ‘Spatial Sociocultural Knowledge Workshop’ and, this year for the first time a symposium on ‘Protecting Cultural Property During Military Operations’ – all of which have connections with Military Anthropology.

The programme will be loosely structured around the needs of those who sign up to attend, but will in any case contain reports from the field, discussions on the current state of Military Anthropology and aspirations for the future of the discipline.

A key consideration will be how Military Anthropology can contribute over the next few years both to Social Science and to raising the level of understanding within military organizations of the importance and relevance of cultural issues in the context of military operations.
