Event end date: 18 October 2012
Location:
Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham
Overview
The Defence Academy of the United Kingdom at Shrivenham is hosting the annual International CBRN Symposium which will run from Tuesday 16 to Thursday 18 October 2012. The timing of this year’s event, the fifteenth in the series held under the auspices of CBRN-UK, could not be more apposite. The theme will be “CBRN Without Borders”. We hope you will join us.
What is this event about?
CBRN transcends international boundaries whether through collaboration on counter-p roliferation initiatives or cross-border co-operation in preparing for, or responding to, a CBRN event. Whilst many nations have the capacity to protect their populations against CBRN events, others do not therefore international collaboration is essential. Such cooperation can take a number of forms including countries actively supporting each other on counter-proliferation programmes, assistance with developing CBRN capabilities, joint training and exercises as well as providing direct assistance in the event of a CBRN incident. International organisations such as the UN, OPCW, IAEA, NATO and the EU as well as a number of Non-Governmental organisations play an important role by encouraging and supporting CBRN cooperation efforts.
This conference will consider the current status of international CBRN cooperation. Speakers from international organisations and a number of nations will be invited to give an overview of their collaborative efforts whilst others will be invited to describe what additional assistance they believe should be available. Consideration will also be given as to how International organisations and Governments can work more closely with industry to ensure that the necessary capabilities are available to those that require them. Finally, there will be an opportunity for industry to brief on the latest technologies that are being developed to support CBRN counter proliferation and protection.
How can you contribute?
Through presentations, discussion groups and plenary sessions, the purpose is to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas, the development of new perspectives and the challenging of current thinking. Time is planned into the programme to allow formal and informal discussions both in the main lecture theatre and during the breaks for coffee, lunch and tea.
You can contribute further by presenting a paper to complement those provided by invited speakers. Papers from Industry are particularly welcome on new technical or process methods of protection, and on technologies being developed to support counter proliferation.
If you would like to contribute a paper, please click on Abstract Submission. Please ensure that your application and Abstract of approximately 200 words reach us by 1 August 2012. Papers should be planned to take 20 minutes followed by questions.
The formal dinner, an important aspect of the symposium, has proved to be very useful and productive in previous years. You will have the opportunity to discuss issues with your professional peers who are each addressing the challenge from their own perspective. Proceedings on DVD will be available at the end of the symposium, free to all delegates.
Who will be there?
This symposium, as one of a series of Symposia at Shrivenham, uses a well proven format which, annually, brings together representatives from the military, the emergency services, research and development organisations and Government procurement agencies together with Industry in a relaxed atmosphere within the secure surroundings of the Defence Academy. Specific invitations have been sent to a number of the UK’s international CBRN partners including India, the USA, Canada, Australia and the European Commission.
