Background

Shane graduated from Cranwell in 1981 then trained as a pilot before transferring to Supply duties in 1983.  He served throughout the Military Support Chain in the UK and overseas including Procurement, Operational Support, Depot Storage, Maintenance Repair and Overhaul, Stock Control and Accounting, Road, Sea and Air Movement, Fuels and explosives, Inventory Planning & Logistics Information Systems.  He was decorated for active service in 1991 and in 1993 pioneered inventory cost-optimisation in the UK MOD.  In 1997, as the Logistics Exchange Officer to the South African Air Force, Shane received commendations from their Chief of Air Force and the Chief of the Defence Force for improving Log IS support.

Shane retired from the RAF as a senior officer in 1999 and has visited over 50 countries across 6 continents explaining Inventory optimisation and consulting using the latest methods and tools.

Most recently Shane’s research for the UK MoD resulted in the Cost-Weighted Back-Order (CWBO) Inventory planning algorithm that the MoD implemented to optimise its inventory.  CWBO reduced shortage by 93% AND decreased inventory investment.  Now many other Departments of Defence are interested in Shane’s research and in adopting his CWBO algorithm.
