Her research concentrates on the osteological identification of scurvy in the archaeological record specifically focusing on skeletal assemblages from the Royal Naval Hospitals of the Georgian period.

Background

Catherine Sinnott graduated from University College Cork in 2007 with a B.A (Hons.) in Archaeology and History. During her undergraduate studies Catherine worked on a number of both research and commercial archaeological fieldwork projects specialising in medieval and post medieval Irish archaeology.

Catherine then read a MA in Human Osteoarchaeology in the Archaeology Department of University College Cork where her MA thesis examined the osteological aging methods typically used on foetal and neonatal skeletal remains from archaeological contexts.

Catherine has worked on several heritage and archaeological projects and since joining Cranfield has been involved in several research areas. Catherine has supervised the excavations at the Royal Naval Hospital at Haslar and is currently analysing the skeletal remains from this site. Catherine has also been involved with the identification and reburial of a WW1 soldier with the Ploegsteert excavations in Belgium.

Catherine also assists on a number of modules for the Forensic MSc programme being run by Cranfield University at Shrivenham.
