Background

Dr. John Rock was awarded his first degree in Colour Chemistry and Colour Technology after studying at the University of Bradford. John then gained an MSc from the Polytechnic of the South Bank (now London South Bank University) in Polymer Science and Technology followed by a PhD from the University of Surrey.
John continued to work at the University of Surrey where he conducted Postdoctoral research on the Environmental Stress Corrosion of Glass Reinforced Epoxy Composites followed by a period in the printing and can coating industries. In 1985 John moved to the Water Research Centre where he was responsible for the water industry’s research into composite and plastic pipes and served on both BSI and ISO standards committees. John joined the Post Office Research Centre in 1991 and worked on the development of novel organic fluorescent and phosphorescent dyes and pigments.

In 2005 he was appointed to a position at Cranfield University and is currently working in the area of filament winding and novel sensor design
