Current activities

Dr Qvortrup is doing research on constitutional and institutional development in newly democratized societies. His current research focus is legal and political issues pertaining to referendums and constitutional law in Britain and abroad. He has recently finished research on a comparative historical study of nationalism and referendums.

Dr Qvortrup is also research co-ordinator for CISR, where he mentors junior researchers and runs research seminars.

Background

Dr Qvortrup studied politics and history at Brasenose College, University of Oxford. He was awarded his doctorate Constitutional Implications of the Use of the Referendum (A study of Constitutional law) from Oxford in 1999.

Dr Qvortrup has previously taught at, The London School of Economics (2001-2004), the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen (2004-2008) and UCL (2008-2010). In 2005 he was a visiting professor at the University of Sydney.
