Current activities
Since joining the centre for Defence Acquisition in April 2010, Philip has been responsible for the Business Management of the Centre for Defence Acquisition. Under the overall banner of being the Business Manager for the Centre, Philip’s responsibilities include the provision of a focus for consultancy, business development, course and research proposals, planning and scheduling courses and seminars, and the infrastructure of the Vincent Centre. When required, he is delighted to escape the office and assist on courses and facilitate syndicate discussions using his extensive acquisition experience.
Background
Philip joined the Centre for Defence Acquisition in April 2010. Prior to this he was, for 37 years, an Army Officer who latterly specialised in all aspects of Acquisition. Two tours in Operational Requirements/Capability Management in Main Building, a stint at DE&S as a Requirements Manager (during which time he was awarded a CDP’s Team Excellence Award for work on Mine Protected Vehicles) which was preceded by 9 months as part of the combined MoD/KPMG ‘Breakthrough Team’ at Abbey Wood, and 3 years representing the CBRN Joint User community during the transition to Capability Management have given him a wide experience set.
A Degree in Civil Engineering (Nottingham) set him up for a thoroughly enjoyable early career in the Royal Engineers, he is a graduate of the Weapons Staff Course (Div 1) and the Army Staff College (Camberley) and gained his Masters in Defence Administration from Cranfield University. His interests range across capability and requirements management, programme and project management, Joint User issues and change management.
