Background

Christopher has been with Cranfield University since April 2008, working in the Centre for Applied Laser Spectroscopy (CALS) within the Department of Engineering and Applied Science (DEAS); the theme of his research is laser- induced breakdown spectroscopy of aqueous media.

A graduate from the University of Leeds with a BSc in Physics with Astrophysics, Christopher worked throughout the 1990s for the Ministry of Defence at their Chertsey (Surrey) site, moving on promotion to the Farnborough, Hampshire Headquarters of what by then was the Defence Research Agency [DRA] in August 1994. Christopher’s work included interaction between heavy vehicle armour and anti-armour weapons, high powered microwave studies, and estimation of radar cross- section of a range of aerial targets, before taking early retirement early in 1999.

After several years teaching science and mathematics in secondary schools, Christopher returned to University to read for an MSc in Forensic Science: Christopher’s MSc dissertation concerned the imaging of contraband (narcotics and explosives) via a range of conventional (x-ray & neutron) and exotic technologies.

Christopher is due to join the Institute of Physics as an Associate Member.
