Current activities

John McGlinchey is founder and principal of  Forensic Engineering Solutions a Northern Ireland based company providing specialist forensic engineering advices to a broad range of legal clients.  The company’s case load extends from the investigation of road traffic collisions, both civil and criminal, through to advices in many other cases including murder, rape, arson, assault etc.

John has a particular interest in the investigation of road traffic collisions, and has supplemented his knowledge with studies in the fields of impact trauma biomechanics, and forensic ballistics.  In studying impact trauma, it is often possible to determine the mechanics of parts of a collision event from assessing the location and nature of injuries.  Ballistics is important in understanding the movement of objects in flight, which of course is what happens to pedestrians and cyclists when struck by a fast moving vehicle.

In his first masters degree, taken at Cranfield University, John’s thesis was a study into the nature of a mid-shaft femoral fracture, in order to assess the relevance of the forces imposed upon the femur by muscle loading from the act of emergency braking.  In his second masters degree, taken at Teesside University, his thesis was a study into the multi-factorial nature of a collision, using what appeared to have been a simple two vehicle collision, but which was in fact quite a complicated set of circumstances.  John is currently taking a third masters degree at Cranfield University, this time in the area of driver behaviour.
