Current activities
Since joining the Centre for Defence Acquisition in Cranfield University in Jul 2008, Dai has been employed in the design, development and delivery of Acquisition Training. He is currently Course Director for Capability Management at the Advanced Level and lectures on the BAE Systems Capability Management Masterclass Programme.
Dai is also a specialist in the delivery of training with regard to the leadership and management of high performing teams and their appropriate behaviours. He currently manages the Welsh Rugby Union 7s Team on the International Rugby World Circuit.
Dai’s specialist areas are Capability Management, Leadership and Management of High Performing Teams.
Background
After a 27 year career in the British Army, Dai joined Centre for Defence Acquisition in Jul 2008. Throughout his military career Dai worked in a range of procurement, training and education programmes. In particular; he was the lead designer and implementation manager on the successful Army Foundation College PFI programme. Following this he was then employed as the Army’s principal training advisor to the Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) on the development and delivery of training to support the Army, some 72 projects. His final appointment was a lead desk officer on Acquisition Reform Initiatives with the Capability Sponsor, including the introduction of Through Life Capability Management Training across the MOD Unified Customer.
He was awarded an MBE in June 2006 for his leadership, management and outstanding contribution to Defence Acquisition and Training.
Dai is a fully qualified Education, Training and Management specialist. He holds a Masters Degree in Education and Training from Brunel University and a PGCE from Cardiff University, in addition to his BSc (Hons) in Nuclear Physics from Birmingham University. In 2001 he further completed his MSc in Corporate and Strategic Management at Cranfield.
Throughout his career Dai has participated, coached and managed professional sport teams, particularly rugby. Within the Services he was Elite Performance Manager for all Army Rugby. In 2005 he was appointed as Welsh National Team Manager for Rugby 7’s, since then he has fulfilled that role through the International Rugby World Series, the Commonwealth Games and in 2009 guided Wales to win the Rugby 7’s World Cup in Dubai. He is a Level 5 qualified International Rugby Coach and holds a Diploma in Sports Coaching and Management.
