Current activities

Since September 2008, Pete Ito has served as a Lecturer in Defence Acquisition.  He lectures on the Defence Acquisition Management MSc, the Through Life Capability Management courses and is the Academic Lead within the Centre for Defence Acquisition for the delivery of the Acquisition Employment Training courses.  His research activities are in the field of export controls and the proliferation of technology.

Background

After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Juris Doctor (law) degree and a Masters degree in International Affairs from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Pete worked for 25 years as a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. State Department. He served in Seoul, South Korea; Copenhagen, Denmark; Bonn and Berlin, Germany; The Hague, The Netherlands and Washington, D.C. His primary focus was political affairs, particularly defence and security policy. He served as the head of the Political-Military Affairs section in Berlin, as Counsellor for Political and Economic Affairs in Copenhagen and as the Deputy Permanent Representative for the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for the Prohibition
of Chemical Weapons located in The Hague. He joined Cranfield University in September 2007, working as a researcher in the areas of strategic management and change management, before moving to his current position.
