Current activities
Paul started his career as a quality engineer for Honda of the UK Manufacturing after which he completed a four-year Engineering Doctorate examining the high-velocity impact response of ceramic materials. Subsequently he was employed as a Lecturer in 1998 and promoted to Senior Lecturer and Head of the Dynamic Response Group in 2006. His research interests centre on the science behind armour development and more specifically impact, penetration and the shock response of materials. Paul is a Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales and a Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London and is supported by the Institute of Shock Physics. Paul is a regular visitor to the Australian Defence Force Academy where he teaches on aspects of Firepower and Protection.
Paul teaches the science of terminal ballistics, shock waves, armour design concepts, ceramic armour and explosive reactive armour, material modelling for hydrocodes and ammunition design; he is also the module leader for Armour Systems Design.
Find out more about Paul's research interests here.
He has written several research articles on armour, impact, shock and the dynamic behaviour of materials. Some recent examples are listed below.
