Current activities

Barry Grey is a Teaching Assistant and Laboratory Manager for the Aeromechanical System Group’s power and drives laboratory, the IPEL centre, and for the Guided Weapons Demonstration Facility. 

Barry is also the Health and Safety Advisor for Cranfield Defence and Security at Shrivenham.

Background

Barry has worked at Shrivenham since 1978 following a five-year (JIB) electrical engineering apprenticeship and a period working at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment Harwell, where he was an electrical engineer working on all plant and equipment. Barry joined the MoD at the Royal Military College of Science (now the Defence Academy of the UK) Shrivenham employed as an electronic craftsman working on the construction, manufacture and testing of printed circuit boards. He was progressively promoted to a Professional and Technical Officer within the electronic workshop, then to the (Electrical / Mechanical) Workshop Supervisor, before becoming Manager for the Power and Drives Laboratory.

Barry has 30 years experience in the electrical and electronics industry. His qualifications include City & Guilds Electrical Installations parts A, B & C, BTEC/ONC Electronics, BTEC/HNC Electronics, HNC Mathematics and Open University degree courses. He has also been the Cranfield Health and Safety Advisor for 10 years on the Shrivenham site. He currently has a NEBOSH certificate in Health and Safety.
