Background

Jamie Fredericks studied for his first degree in applied biology at the University of Bath. As part of his undergraduate degree he took an exchange scholar placement at the University of Iowa, where he studied the molecular pathways of prostate cancer metastases.

Graduating in 2006, Jamie then read an MSc in Forensic Anthropology at the University of Central Lancashire. His MSc dissertation investigated the effects of temperature has on DNA degradation in skeletal tissue, and will be presenting his findings at the American Academy of Forensic Science’s Annual conference in Washington DC.

Jamie joined Cranfield University in October 2007 and is currently researching the effect that temperature or submergence of bone in seawater has on the material and physical properties of bone. He will working towards developing new tools that can be used to predict whether a compromised bone sample can produce a successful DNA profile.
