Background

Mark Carpenter graduated in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Nottingham in 1980.

Since then he has acquired experience in a wide range of materials technologies and materials-related activities from forensic failure investigations of components and materials, to corrosion research and the development of novel processes for the casting of advanced engineering materials such as metal matrix composites.

An interesting aside involved the design and evaluation of prototype mechanisms for Cranfield’s flapping flight research programme.

Mark’s most recent research, undertaken at Cranfield University, has involved devising improved systems for impregnating continuous reinforcing fibres, with thermoset resins, whilst filament winding composites.
