Current activities
Peter re-joined Cranfield University in June 2009 and is currently involved in research revolving around the formation of a Defence Acquisition Body of Knowledge as well as several projects aiming to produce a continuous stream of publications over the longer term. This will include various books, journal articles, case studies, conference papers, monographs and chapters in edited publications as well as updating teaching material used by the Centre for Defence Acquisition.
Peter, along with two colleagues, helps run a military history website located at http://www.historyofwar.org which has been used by a number of other authors for reference material, the Canadian Forces College for teaching material and has received very favourable comments from Professor D M Giangreco who works at the US Army Command and Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas
Background
Since leaving school in 1987, Peter has worked in a number of posts for a number of very different organisations. These have mainly been administration roles, for organisations such as NatWest PLC, The Court Service, Macmillan Cancer Relief, PHH/Arval and MAN ERF but also included working for over three years in HSM Ltd as a Business Development Executive.
After leaving school and working for three years, Peter went back into full-time education and completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in International Relations at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent. This was followed a year later, by a successful application for funding from Hertfordshire’s Training and Enterprise Council and a move to the west of Wales to study for a Master of Science (Economics and Social Science) degree in Strategic Studies at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.
A move back to St Albans in mid-1997 was followed by his first stint with Cranfield University as a Researcher under David Moore in the Acquisition and Logistics Unit (part of DDMSA) between June 1998 and August 2002. This period helped to cement an extensive publications list and laid the foundation for a number of writing projects undertaken for the military history publisher, Osprey Publishing. Peter’s second stint with Cranfield University was as the manager of the campus bookshop. He also undertook a PGCE (Post-Compulsory Education) with Oxford Brookes University between September 2004 and June 2005.
Looking to the future, Peter hopes to shortly start his Doctorate with Cranfield University, where he will develop and combine his research interests in both military history and defence acquisition and logistics, as well as finish a book for Pen & Sword.
