Course description
Aims
The aim of this course is to introduce the concepts and techniques for weapon assessment and their application in assessing the effectiveness of current or possible future weapons systems.
Description
The material covered includes:
- Introduction to Weapons Systems and the Weapon Assessment Cycle
- Performance Parameters and Measures of Effectiveness of Weapon Systems
- Cost Effectiveness Considerations
- Dispersion of Fire
- Minefield Assessment
- Data Acquisition
- Carpet Graphs and Response Surfaces li>Design of Trials
- Assessment of Direct and Indirect Fire
Tuition will be by means of lectures, group discussion periods and exercises. Computer programs will be used in support of a number of exercises, and case studies will be presented and discussed.
The course may be credited towards a part-time MSc/PGDip/PGCert in defence Simulation & Modelling or Military Operational Research.
To obtain a degree credit it is necessary to enrol for a module which includes, in addition to the short course, a programme of directed studies and a marked assignment.
