PhD/Research Opportunities
We regularly have research posts available, particularly PhD Studentships. Cranfield Defence and Security, Shrivenham, is home to some unique facilities and projects. Our research is closely linked to industry, public and defence sectors across the UK, Europe and internationally.
Research students are normally enrolled for an MPhil degree and will transfer to the PhD degree after one year, subject to satisfactory progress and an oral examination. For both MPhil and PhD degrees, students will present a written thesis and be orally examined on its contents. Research students will be part of a lively programme, sponsored by the research councils, government departments and industry from inside and outside the defence sector. Students wishing to study on a part-time basis are welcomed and, subject to suitable supervision arrangements, may carry out much of their research at their usual place of work. In exceptional circumstances the university may consider a particular blend of alternative qualifications and suitable work experience to be appropriate for entry to a course of study. Industrially sponsored students will normally undertake a project related to the sponsor's interests.
