5th International Nitrocellulose Symposium

The 5th International Nitrocellulose Symposium will take place in Spiez, Switzerland, on April 17th - 18th, 2012. The Symposium is jointly organised by Swiss MoD armasuisse and Nitrochemie Wimmis AG.

We would be pleased to welcome you at this symposium.

You will find all necessary information regarding registration, hotel reservation and travel planning here. As deadline for registration is on February 24th, 2012, we would recommend to complete registration and hotel booking as soon as possible.

We have been able to acquire a large amount (30 by the number; see list) of very interesting presentations covering a broad range of nitrocellulose issues: The first session “Characterisation / Analytics of NC” starts with an overview of the new standards for NC testing, followed by presentations regarding associated and new / alternative testing methods, as well as testing procedures of civil grade NC. Presentations about GPC testing of NC lead over to the second session “Ageing, Stability and Safety of NC”, with presentations about the effects of NC degradation on ageing of propellant and high explosive formulations. Another main issue of this session is the new EASSP Technical Paper „evaluation of shelf-life of NC and NG in storage”. Session 3 “Supply / Raw Materials / Production Process” will focus on the cellulose raw material problem (unavailability) and how to solve this problem (alternative raw materials and necessary changes in equipment / production process), including consequences on product quality (propellants, combustible cartridge cases, ….) and further impacts such as the many re-qualifications becoming necessary. Session 4 will contain further presentations on risk assessment, disposal and ballistic stability of NC-based propellants. The conference concludes with a visit of Nitrochemie’s NC-factory and laboratory.

Best regards,

The Organizing Committee:
