Centre for Information Systems Engineering

Information Systems are central to the management and operation of organizations. Information Systems have an important role in supporting:

  • Business process and operations, to provide useful products and services to customers
  • Decision making for employees and managers
  • Setting strategy to ensure the health and survival of the organization

It is therefore essential that we understand how Information Systems affect and effect the organisation and its employees, how it makes the business more efficient and effective and how Information Systems are informed by business objectives.

In attempting to understand how the needs of the organisation determine the requirements of Information Systems, it is important to take a socio-technical perspective of the issues. This perspective recognises the role of human attributes and performance in the system as well as business process and information technology. This includes the consideration of organisational, social and cultural issues as well as cognitive capabilities, skills, competencies, education and training and influencing human behaviour.

The Centre for Information Systems Engineering addresses the issues that arise from the appropriate application of Information Systems by supporting activities in the following research groups.
