Centre for International Security & Resilience

The Centre for International Security and Resilience (CISR) is the focal point for all Security and Resilience capabilities within Cranfield University. It includes staff from the former Security Studies Institute and Resilience Centre. CISR's mission is to "To enable the development of more secure and resilient societies through the provision of high quality research, education, training, and consultancy".
The Centre consists of a unique blend of academics and practitioners who ensure that our range of products and services are of direct relevance and benefit to those involved in the development of secure and resilient societies. Our activities are primarily focused on the following areas:

Applied Research and Consultancy Services
CISR staff apply rigorous academic thought to practical issues. Collectively we have global reach and impact having delivered projects in over 30 countries word wide. Each of these projects is designed to meet clearly identified requirements from either public or private institutions, and is informed by the academic research base of the Centre. Previous clients have included:
- United Nations agencies including UNDP, UNOPS, UNMAS and UNICEF;
- Government departments including the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), UK Department for International Development (DFID), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), and the United States Department of State;
- The European Union;
- OSCE;
NATO; - Emergency services including the Metropolitan Police Service and other police forces;
- Local Resilience Forums; and
- Commercial and non governmental organisations in the UK and abroad including BT, Lloyds TSB, and Shell.

In recognition of capacity development and operational assistance work conducted by members of the Centre staff in humanitarian mine action, Cranfield University were awarded a prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education.
