Solar Cell Modelling

Thin-film CdTe/CdS thin films form a very complex system.

  • The structure contains grain boundaries.
  • The two layers interdiffuse when a heterojunction is formed.
  • Further complexities arise during annealing and contacting stages.

The interactions of these mechanisms is very poorly understood. At Cranfield University we have been using computational modelling to try and understand the interplay of the growth and processing mechanisms.
