Radiation Facilities for Research and Education.

The Department of Materials and Medical Sciences has a wealth of facilities for the production of intense controllable radiation fields which are used to study the radiation effects on materials and the evaluation of equipment.

Recent studies have focussed on the effectiveness of the latest radiation detectors currently used by the British Army to search for illicit nuclear material.

The wide range of resources help provide a broad education in radiation from nuclear weapon effects to the recent threats of so called “dirty bombs.”
