Pigments

Pigments were some of the earliest minerals exploited by man and can considered to be some of the earliest chemical “experiments”.

Early palettes consisted of red ochre, gypsum white and charcoal black, but later a range of new colours were added included blues and greens.

This project explores the range of natural and man made pigments, particularly those exploited in ancient Egypt to produce tomb and temple paintings.
