Forensic Science Society Accreditation

All five themes of the Forensic Programme have been formally accredited by the Forensic Science Society .
The specific courses that are accredited are:
- MSc Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology
- MSc Forensic Ballistics
- MSc Forensic Engineering and Science
- MSc Forensic Explosive and Explosion Investigation
- MSc Forensic Investigation
The accreditation process focused on the key areas of forensic science, which the Society has divided into three component standard:
- Interpretation, Evaluation & Presentation of Evidence
- Laboratory Analysis
- Crime Scene Investigations
As part of the accreditation process representatives of the Society reviewed the Forensic Programme syllabus and visited the University to meet staff and students, and to see our facilities.
The review panel commended the Programme for
- being well suited to Cranfield University’s unique background and facilities
- the availability of a wide range of analytical equipment
- the collections of firearms and explosive devices
- the range of project titles and topics offered to students
- the teaching of statistics for being comprehensive and well-integrated
- the mock-court exercise for being well constructed and an effective test of a student’s ability to interpret and present evidence
- the widespread use of external contributors that provide the students with ample access to forensic practitioners
