    Sept 2012 Nathan Phillips and Kevin Knowles won the IMechE George Stephenson Gold Medal for their paper: "Effect of Flapping Kinematics on the Mean Lift of an Insect-like Flapping Wing", Proceedings IMechE Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2011, 225 (7), pp 723-736.     July 2012 PhD student Nathan Phillips won the Lord Kings Norton medal for best Cranfield PhD thesis

    June 2011 PhD student Nathan Phillips placed 2nd in the ERCOFTAC “Osborne Reynolds” Prize 

    May 2012 Nathan Phillips and Kevin Knowles won the  IMechE Kenneth Harris James prize for their paper: "Effect of Flapping Kinematics on the Mean Lift of an Insect-like Flapping Wing", Proceedings IMechE Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2011, 225 (7), pp 723-736.     Sept-Oct 2007 PhD student Bidur Khanal awarded scholarship for internship at Tohoku University, Japan, for research into prediction of aircraft undercarriage noise

    March 2007 PhD student Peter Wilkins won IMechE Western Aerospace Centre prize 

    April 2007 Salman Ansari, Rafal Zbikowski (Autonomous Systems Group) and Kevin Knowles won IMechE Charles Sharpe Beecher prize for the best paper on an aerospace subject published by the Institution in the previous year. Their winning paper was:
