Part funded schemes

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) are part funded through the TSB and involve high-quality graduates (KTP Associates) working within companies on projects central to the needs of the company. KTP Associates are jointly supervised by company personnel and a senior academic. KTP is a national scheme funded by UK Government.

Projects range in duration from six months to three years and are based around improving the competitiveness of the business, such as improving product designs, quality or manufacturing processes, reducing costs, increasing sales and developing new markets.

Industrial CASE (Co-operative Awards in Science and Engineering)

Industrial CASE provides funding for PhD studentships where businesses take the lead in arranging projects with an academic partner of their choice. Students receive EPSRC funding for 3.5 years. Businesses provide extra funding to the student, a minimum of a third of the EPSRC funding. This currently comes to about £22,000 over the course of the project.

Companies are allocated awards through EPSRC where they can define a project with an academic partner of their choice.

EPSRC allocate awards:

  • Directly to large businesses using an algorithm based on direct financial collaboration on EPSRC-funded research and collaboration on studentships.
  • Through Industrial CASE agents (knowledge transfer networks and regional developments agencies) - a number of awards are available for businesses, especially small- and medium-sized organisations.
