About the course

The application of science and technology at the nano-scale is revolutionising medicine in the 21st Century – enabling us to understand many diseases leading to new insights in diagnostics and therapy and contributing to the development of new generations of medicinal products.

Increasing demand and awareness of applications of nanotechnology in medicine has resulted in the emergence of a new discipline, namely nanomedicine which is now growing at a rapid rate – already solving many challenges faced within various professional bodies, such as healthcare systems, government agencies and industrial companies.

Developed in response to industry and society demand – Cranfield’s unique Nanomedicine course is the first of its kind within the UK and Europe to bridge the gap between nanotechnology and medicine, providing students with advanced knowledge, skills and practical experience of the principles, technology and applications within this exciting area.

The course will provide essential training for new graduates in the nanotechnology and medicine arena – naturally following on from a first degree in a science or technology related subject. The course will also provide advanced in-post training for professionals already working in a variety of related industries. Available on a full and part-time basis the course offers flexibility and support for those who wish to study whilst remaining in employment.

The MSc course comprises a formal taught ten-module course, a core principles integration element and a four-month research project and thesis.

Students can benefit from an industry project placement, encouraging them to make contact with potential employers before even completing their degree. Part time students normally carry out their project at their place of work allowing them to apply their learning and make a difference in their own environment.

Entry requirements:

1st or 2nd class UK honours degree, or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as a science or technology related subject. Candidates with appropriate professional experience wishing to develop their careers are also invited to apply. Where applicable, students must achieve a minimum International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 92.
