Cranfield University is strengthening its connections with an Indian university, the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), building on a long-standing relationship between both institutions.
Since a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Cranfield and VIT in 2017, the two universities have worked closely to deliver dual degree programmes, joint short courses, research collaborations, internship opportunities and joint academic appointments.
Dr G. Viswanathan, founder and Chancellor of VIT, along with other university representatives, visited Cranfield on 10 May to cement the new arrangements. With the initial collaboration focusing on manufacturing and moving into aerospace, a deeper relationship will now extend across more areas of shared interest and potentially offer more integrated Master’s courses for students from VIT.
Professor Karen Holford CBE FREng, Cranfield’s Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive commented: “We were delighted to welcome Chancellor Viswanathan and his esteemed colleagues to Cranfield. We’ve witnessed a superb collaboration since we first formed an academic relationship with VIT, and I’m delighted we are building on that by extending our partnership to new areas of joint interest”.
Chancellor Dr. Viswanathan commented: “I am extremely delighted that the relationship between Cranfield University and VIT has flourished over the last six years achieving the objectives that were set. The MoA signed today will further strengthen academic and research partnership between the two universities. I am very pleased that we are looking at future collaboration with renewed enthusiasm to expand our partnership to areas of mutual interest.
